Frequently Asked Questions About Galapagos Cruises
Yes. For safety reasons and in line with the operator’s policy, there is a minimum age limit of 5 years old for guests traveling. There is no upper age limit. As long as you are mobile and feel comfortable getting in and out of the tenders (Zodiacs), you will be fine. Our crew-to-guest ratio of 1:1 ensures personalized attention and assistance with every activity.
Galapagos cruises are categorized as “soft adventure.” Most of the activities involve daily guided walks (hiking) and wet/dry landings from the tender boats onto beaches or rocky terrain. You need a basic level of mobility to navigate these transfers and walks. Walking distances are generally short, and while some volcanic terrain can be uneven, the activities are not overly strenuous. For more active travelers, daily snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding, and optional rendezvous diving are available.
It is never too early to book. To secure your preferred suite (especially the Owner’s Suite) and itinerary (East or West), you should ideally book 12–18 months in advance, or as soon as departure dates are released. A deposit is required to confirm your booking, with the final balance due 90 days prior to departure.
All Galápagos cruises require an international flight into Ecuador (Quito or Guayaquil). From the mainland, you take a required domestic flight to the islands, typically landing at Baltra Island (GPS). The cruise embarks and disembarks in either Baltra or Puerto Ayora (Santa Cruz Island), depending on whether you choose the East or West itinerary. We recommend arranging the flights designated by the operator to ensure seamless transfers.
The Galápagos Islands are a protected area governed by strict regulations to conserve the delicate ecosystem. The key rules are:
Do not touch the wildlife, no matter how close they come.
Stay within the marked trails at all times.
Do not use flash photography on wildlife.
Do not take any souvenir (rocks, shells, plants) from the islands. Your Naturalist Guide will brief you daily on all required safety and conservation protocols.
